Release Event: A Butterfly in COVID: Structural Racism and Baltimore’s Pretrial Legal System

On January 18th, the Maryland Law Review hosted an article release event for its recently published work, A Butterfly in COVID: Structural Racism and Baltimore's Pretrial Legal System.

This event focused on the structural racial disparities in Baltimore's pretrial justice system and its distressful impact both locally and nationally. Panelists included the authors, Professor Doug Colbert of Maryland Carey Law, and Colin Starger, professor of law and director of the Legal Data & Design Clinic at the University of Baltimore Law School. Special guest panelists included Dr. Lawrence T. Brown, the Morgan State University scholar who coined the term "Black butterfly," and Professor Maneka Sinha, the Director of Maryland Carey Law's Criminal Defense Clinic.
